Goff is pictured with his much treasured and extremely rare 1901 Marenghi fairground organ. The 89 key instrument, which plays punch card music, is transported using an FL6 4x2 drawbar rig which has been converted to include living accommodation mounted on the back of the chassis. The truck is looked after by MC Truck and Bus and ever mindful of the need to maintain the classic outfit’s reliability, Goff uses Genuine Volvo Parts sourced from the MC Dealerships at Burgess Hill and Maidstone.
From his farmhouse in the Sussex countryside, Goff sallies forth to give recitals around the country at private functions and society weddings. The Marenghi boasts a huge collection of old time favourites from Hello Dolly to the Sound of Music. Many of the figures are hand carved from lime wood and, says Goff, “It always attracts a crowd.”
As Goff once owned a company which used to provide transport stage sets and musical instruments for the BBC and ITV, he is no stranger to the entertainment business. In fact, celebrated xylophone player Sir Patrick Moore is a near neighbour. It’s a dream gig - Sir Patrick on his xylophone and Goff at the helm of the mighty Marenghi, all in front of the FL6. ‘Perfick’ as Pa Larkin might have said!
