Volvo Trucks now account for over half the fleet of RJC Transport Ltd., the Rushden, Northamptonshire-based haulier. The latest addition to the 18-strong and growing fleet is an FM-400 8x4 rigid equipped with a 42-tonne metre Hiab crane.

RJC’s Transport Manager Steve Clements said “We like the product, it’s robust and the Globetrotter cab is easily big enough for four nights out with no problem. The cab is the main reason we like the Volvo’s though – you can stand up in it and it’s just the right height. It also has Volvo’s I-Shift transmission fitted.
This is great for less wear and tear on the driveline, as it enables you to approach every bit of road in the right gear and it’s more driver friendly than a manual gearbox.” Support is provided by the local supplying Dealer, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s depot in Kettering, just five miles away, in the form of overnight servicing, courtesy cars for the drivers and parts back-up.
The FM delivers a payload of 13 tonnes and is used to transport Portakabins as well as plant and machinery - including plastic injection moulding equipment from its base at Higham Ferrers, near Rushden.
