MURFITTS INDUSTRIES LTD. established in 2001, operates one of the newest, most up to date and largest tyre recycling facilities in the UK and Europe. With a fleet of 14 trucks, all of which are Volvo, they have just taken delivery of their first Volvo Limited Edition 80th Anniversary model 6 x 2 pusher- axle tractor.  Mark Murfitt, Managing Director, when asked why they’d chosen an 80th Anniversary Edition said, “We thought it would be nice to have something a bit different. It has striking livery and is easily associated with Volvo’s 80th Anniversary. I’ve been buying Volvo’s for the last 18 years primarily for the excellent service, ease of operation, driver acceptability, good pricing and the excellent whole life costs. Furthermore, the Dealer is just five miles away in Ely.”

As Murfitts do not have any workshops, and recycling rather than transport is their core business, all the trucks come with a comprehensive 5 year Volvo Repair and Maintenance contract.  Mark added, “On the service side, the Dealer talks with my Transport Manager. They book the vehicles in, they get serviced and they bring them back. It’s as easy as that.”

All the Volvo tractor units were specified with I-Shift. According to Mark, “The system is very well accepted by the drivers. We achieve between 8.5 and 9.5 mpg partially or fully loaded depending on the application. We also have the Dynafleet telematics system which is a huge help with routing and re-routing. We can even advise a customer when the truck is due to arrive with them.
