Turku Factory

Turku is today one of the oldest body factories still in operation in Europe.  It has long traditions in bus body building, as the first buses were built there already in the late 1920s.  The official year of establishing the present factory is in 1935, as  three local bus operators started to build buses for their own needs. The company got then the name Autokori Oy.

Turku factory has also worked under the names Delta Plan and Carrus Oy. The present name Volvo Bus Finland Turku Factory was taken into use in 2004, six years after Volvo acquisition of the company in 1998. 

Turku factory is known for its spirit of innovation and high-level research and development activities, which throughout the history have brought company a worldwide reputation. In 1955 company's bus was awarded a prize of 'the wooden bus with steel reinforcement' at Helsinki exhibition. Turku was also among the body builders which started to export their products to international market. Turku buses have got many prizes at international exhibitions.

                                                               

In 2006 Volvo 9700 was appointed the 'Coach of the Year' at Kortrijk bus exhibition and the exhibition bus was manufactured at Turku factory.  

Turku's annual production capacity is approx. 170 bodies, the Volvo 9700 coaches, in different modifications. The amount of employees is 310 people.
