7/15/2008 Volvo expands forestry offering with launch of heavy-duty tracked feller bunchers

-

Volvo Construction Equipment has developed a range of feller bunchers to add to its growing range of dedicated forestry machines.

The three models consist of the 37t, full swing radius Volvo FB3800C; the 30t short swing radius Volvo FB2800C, and the 30t zero swing Volvo FBR2880C. All three models can be configured to accommodate either a feller buncher or heavy-duty harvesting/processing head.  They are equipped with Volvo D9E Tier 3-compliant engines, load-sensing hydraulics and industry leading Volvo Care Cabs.

The new feller bunchers are set to be unveiled at the DEMO International forestry show in Halifax, Nova Scotia in September, with the first machines entering the market in early 2009. In addition to demonstrations by the FB3800C and FBR2800C feller bunchers at the show, a Volvo FC2421C harvester/processor, a Volvo L220F wheeled log loader, and a Volvo VHD 430 industrial truck with Manac log trailer will also be put through realistic worksite operations. These latest additions are a further indication of Volvo’s commitment to provide the industry with technologically advanced forestry solutions.

“Volvo has made a solid commitment to support the global forest harvesting and forest bio-energy industries,” comments Mike Rhoda, the new president of Volvo’s excavator business. “We are taking a leading role in providing the industry with state-of-the-art and innovative equipment that meets the needs of this important market. The new feller buncher product line validates our ongoing commitment to this industry and our customers.”

“We anticipate the introduction of the Volvo feller buncher line will be the forest industry’s most significant equipment announcement this year,” agrees Ken Kelly, Volvo’s customer solutions director for forestry in North America.
