Volvo Construction Equipment, one of the largest manufacturers of construction equipment in the world, began its franchise rental initiative in 2001. The initiative became an important part of a major new strategy for the distribution of Volvo's compact construction equipment.
Volvo Rents Franchise Program: capitalizing on a strong industry
The construction equipment rental industry is projected to grow to be $35 billion by 2011* .
Contractors, who typically represent the largest segment of rental revenues, now rent four times the number of machines they rented as late as 1993. They cite the following as primary factors in their decision to rent, not own, equipment:
- Fulfillment of seasonal needs
- Avoiding the high cost of ownership
- Using-or proving-new products before purchase as primary factors in their decision to rent, not own, equipment.
The rental of equipment to homeowners is a further, significant segment of this market, and it, too, has experienced growth.
Market demand for construction equipment is increasingly focused on small and mid-size machinery. In fact, this is the fastest growing segment of the construction equipment industry. It is no accident that Volvo Construction Equipment is a major provider in this category of construction equipment. This category includes compact wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes, and skid steer loaders.
