2006-09-01 CROSSROADS DELIVERS FIRST FH16-580 EURO IN UK

The top spec 6x2 Push-axle unit features Bass Green metallic paintwork and polished aluminium wheels. The customer is respected livestock haulier Chris Waite Transport of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire. David has been selling Volvo's to Chris Waite Transport for some years, but this is the first FH16 the firm has bought. The truck has been allocated to Ken Botterill, who, with 25 years service, is the firm's longest serving driver. Ken reports that topping up with Adblue is not a problem as the company has installed a 1500 litre IBC with electric pump at the depot in Driffield.

Chris Waite says that the truck's Adblue consumption is around 4% of that of diesel. Chris Waite Transport haul organically farmed livestock for Britain's largest retailers and the fleet reflects Waite's high image and high level of care for the animals they transport. The trailers, made by Pezzaioli in Brescia, Italy, are an example of the firm's approach to their demanding job. Costing over £80,000 each, the air-suspended, multi-deck transporters are equipped with special feeding, watering, lighting and ventilation systems to ensure that the animals are not stressed during their journey.

Sometimes the company is involved in moving herds of pedigree cattle worth tens of thousands of pounds from one farm to another. Time is of the essence and the FH16 with its 2800 Nm of torque, ensures that journies are made as efficiently as possible, thus further improving the animals' welfare whilst in transit.
