Crossroads took over First's engineering workshop inYork in 2002 maintaining a fleet of 103 vehicles on a 7 year contract from its city centre site at James Street. We currently have 15 technicians looking after a variety of vehicle types including single deck, double deck and articulated buses. The fleet also includes 12 Volvo artics with Wright's 'Streetcar' bodywork which operate on one of First's premium services in Yorkshire.
Vehicles are maintained to different manufacturer's schedules dependant upon their type and mileage operated. These include dedicated vehicles operating on York's Park & Ride sites, 3 coaches operating on airport services, a fleet of single and double deck buses operating on high frequency city centre services and a fleet of 12 Streetcars operating on routes serving York University.
This contract is subject to First's exacting performance requirements demanding 100% service reliability at all times to meet its service charter to customers and commitments given to the Licencing Authority on registered timetables. The workshop is supported by Volvo's bus aftermarket division in Warwick working in partnership with Crossroad's team of trained technicians at York. Weekly review meetings are held with Volvo, Wrights and First's local Contract Director to ensure that the wheels keep rolling and that any issues which arise are dealt with immediately.
