“The key benefit of a Volvo is its reliability,” says DISL’s Logistics Manager, Nick Matthews. “Before the new FM12 we ran an FM9 which was a great truck, never letting us down. I’m also a great believer in whole life costs. In my view, the FM12 will prove cheaper overall than any other truck we could have chosen.”
DISL chose the 340bhp, 32 tonne GVW FM12 over another FM9 due to the increased payload capacity. “We can now carry enough equipment to do a job in one trip, instead of splitting the load over two trips,” explains Nick.
Specified with a sleeper cab in ‘Comfort’ trim – including electronic climate control, integrated GSM phone and two reversing cameras – the rigid has also been supplied with Volvo’s automated I-Shift gearbox, which DISL expect to increase driver comfort and provide savings on fuel.
The NCH3005 cable-operated swap body system was supplied and fitted by Norwest and is used to mount and demount 23 ft flat bed bodies carrying scaffolding equipment including tubes, brackets and boards.

The truck was purchased from Volvo Truck and Bus (South) and will operate from DISL’s Yeovil base to transport scaffolding equipment on civil engineering contracts. Its five-year repair and maintenance contract will be serviced by the Exeter depot of Volvo Truck dealer, Stuarts Truck & Bus.
