2005-06-07 GKL take first Volvo to attract drivers

GKL Haulage Ltd, based in Peterborough, have taken delivery of their first ever Volvo - an FM12 8x4 tipper - specified with a Day cab in ‘Comfort’ trim, CD player/radio with steering wheel controls and electronic climate control.

“The ‘Comfort’ trim and other in-cab extras were specified in order to attract long-term drivers,” explains GKL’s Transport Manager Christine Winter. “We’re a company that likes to retain our drivers for as long as possible, so we offer them that little bit more. The driver of our new FM12 is very happy with his truck.”

“Weight was also a critical factor,” she continues. “Volvo were able to meet our requirements here too.”

The tipper, bought from Volvo Truck & Bus Centre East Anglia, has a 380bhp engine, 9-speed manual gearbox and is plated for 32 tonne GVW operation. The steel Groundhog Superlite tipper body and electronic sheeting system were supplied and fitted by Charlton.

On a two year repair and maintenance contract with the Peterborough depot of Volvo Truck & Bus Centre East Anglia, the FM12 will operate around Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Leicestershire areas from GKL Haulage’s base on aggregate and muck-away duties.
