This charming Norfolk man has been a loyal Volvo customer for forty years and recently allowed us the privilege of viewing his collection of Volvo memorabilia.

Tony officially became a Volvo customer on February 7th 1969. On that snowy winter’s day, he took delivery of an F86 tractor unit from Billows in Kettering. It was love at first drive. Over the next forty years, Tony owned 30 Volvo trucks and ran a tidy fleet of seven from his base at Great Moulton. In 1972, he became the first operator in East Anglia to take delivery of an F88. One of his favourites was a 1984 registered FL7 which he says went ‘six times around the clock’. According to Tony, he stayed loyal to Volvo because of the “brilliant” back up from the dealer network.
Although retired from the haulage business, Tony has retained many items of his ‘Volvo life’. His collection, some of which he is pictured with here, includes journals, photographs and several trophies presented by Volvo and Duffields to him in appreciation of his tremendous loyalty.
He has visited the factory on a number of occasions and even seen one of his own trucks being built on the line at Gothenburg.
Today, he keeps his hand in by driving an FL6 skip loader for a local operator, adding. “If it’s not a Volvo, I won’t drive it.” Does he miss the haulage industry? “I’d do it all again,” he says, “As long as it’s in a Volvo.”
