Apprenticeship Scheme

Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Scotland offer an Apprenticeship Scheme for school or college leavers giving individuals the opportunity to learn while you earn.

The scheme is designed for 16 - 18 year olds who are wishing to pursue a career in automotive engineering.  Candidates will further their education through vocational training which will result in relevant industry qualifications:

  • BTEC National Certificate in Motor Engineering
    & NVQ  Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Repair

The course will also provide apprentices with essential skills and knowledge required for the job.

Recruitment for the Volvo Scotland Apprenticeship Scheme takes place once a year during May / June, with college term beginning October / November of the same year.

Applicants usually apply through ReMIT (The Retail Motor Industry Training Body) or direct to Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Scotland and are then given an aptitude test followed by an interview.

Successful candidates are those who are motivated, eager to learn and express their commitment to achieving the qualifications which will ensure they are trained to Volvo company standards.

On the job training will be complemented by studying at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire.  Apprentices will be released from work to spend a total of 12 weeks at the college which is divided in to six 2 week blocks until the completion of the course which usually lasts for 3 years.

On achievement of their qualifications, tehcnicians can then progress to a HNC in Motor Vehicle Engineering which is sponsored by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Scotland.  The qualifications ensure technicians are trained to Government and Volvo Company standards.
