The in-line six-cylinder D16E is available in three variants producing 540, 580 and 660 horsepower. What characterises all three engines is that the power is available all the way. High engine power uphill – and extreme braking power downhill – flatten out the hills and give you the ability to maintain a high cruising speed. The torque comes in directly from idling speed which results in exceptional driveability with a steady flood of power. Maximum torque is a massive 2600, 2800 or 3100 Nm, depending on the respective horse power ratings. bearing in mind the performance and the gross combination weight for which the D16E is dimensioned, the engines are very fuel-efficient.
