EPA '07

ENVIRONMENTAL CARE IS ONE OF VOLVO’S CORE VALUES.

Among other things, we work constantly to reduce the environmental impact of the products we manufacture. Reducing diesel engine emissions is an area in which Volvo has devoted a tremendous amount of resources and attention.

New emissions regulations for the trucking industry took effect in the U.S. in 2007. Emissions from diesel engines produced on or after January 1, 2007 must be reduced for oxides of nitrogen (referred to as NOx) (chart) by 50% and particulate matter (PM) emissions must be reduced by 90%. PM is also known as soot.

A typical diesel-powered heavy-duty truck equipped with an engine that meets the 2007 emissions standards will emit approximately 1,200 pounds less NOx and 90 pounds less PM each year than pre-2007 trucks.

These reductions are the latest in a string of increasingly strict emissions reductions the truck industry has met during the last two decades. The result is significantly cleaner air for everyone, while still providing the efficient transportation our modern society requires.
