Tobermore Concrete has taken delivery of the L350F, the largest wheel loader ever produced by Volvo Construction Equipment. Pat O’Donnell & Co. delivered the new flagship Volvo wheel loader to Tobermore’s Cookstown Quarry earlier this month where it will be loading dumpers at the pit face.
Padraig Flynn, Area Sales Manager, Pat O’Donnell & Co, commented, “The new Volvo L350F offers significant advantages over previous models and the competition. When tested in tough load and carry applications the new flagship wheel loader from Volvo CE – the L350F – recorded an 18% rise in productivity and 46% better fuel economy over its predecessor. The source of these improvements largely lies in the combination of the L350F’s new Tier 3/Stage IIIA Volvo engine, stronger hydraulics, an improved lift arm, a new Volvo transmission with lock-up and new axles. As a result, the new model will be easier and more comfortable to operate, leading to faster cycle times and sustained high performance throughout the work day.”
The L350F is fitted with a Volvo D16E engine that produces most of its 397 kW of power and 2550 Nm of torque at low engine speeds. This ability means the engine doesn’t need to be over-revved, leading to excellent fuel economy, reliability – and low noise and emissions. The engine features Volvo’s simple and proven V-ACT (Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology) system and the D16E engine exceeds the requirements of the Tier 3/Stage IIIA emissions legislation.
The engine is mated to the latest transmission from Volvo – the HTE400 – with automatic lock up is a system designed to prevent losses in the torque converter when it is not needed, (e.g. when operating at a constant speed). The HTE400 transmission also features an automatic power shifting system that allows a selection of gear shifting programs to suit the application as well as the operator’s work style. The system can also be activated to automatically downshift to first gear, leaving the operator only having to select between forward and reverse gears.
The load sensing hydraulics system on the L350F have also been improved over the outgoing model. The system has an improved operating system that allows for faster cycle times and increased lift force.
This extra power is demonstrated via Volvo’s proven lift arm system, which gives excellent break out force from ground level through its entire lift cycle. The L350F also has a higher dump height over the model it replaces, aiding loading efficiency. The L350F can also be specified with boom options: the long boom gives additional dump height while the Boom Suspension System features heavy duty shock absorbers that reduce bucket spillage and allow faster, more comfortable, work cycles – increasing productivity by up to 20%. The list of other options is extensive, including auto lubrication systems and the new Care Track
The operator environment takes a significant step forward with the introduction of the L350F. In the Volvo Care Cab, the operator enjoys a more spacious air conditioned interior that is insulated from noise, dust and vibrations – the latter thanks to viscous cab mounts and air suspended seat. All round vision is excellent, thanks to a 22% bigger laminated windshield, large windows and narrow pillars. The automatic climate control meanwhile maintains the desired temperature throughout the work day.
Ease of servicing and reduced downtime have been important design considerations in the development of the new L350F. Daily pre-start items are quickly checked and service items are conveniently grouped together. Lubrication points are also clustered together and are reached from ground level; further improving safety.
