Weighing from 33.8-37 tonnes, the ECR305CL overcomes the dynamic challenges of producing excavators that can work in confined areas and still perform well. It also sets a new standard for lifting capacity and stability – important in loading applications.
The ECR305CL shares key components with the conventional EC290C, although it takes its undercarriage from the larger EC330C, providing increased strength and stability. Fitted with a standard counterweight of 8,250kg, a heavier counterweight of 8,700kg is available as an option. With better weight distribution and increased swing torque, the Volvo ECR305CL also offers superior swing performance when working on slopes. Its new hydraulic system features full electro-hydraulic control.
Urban sites, laying utilities, mining duties, highway work etc. – the increased safety and maneuverability offered by short swing excavators on congested worksites has seen their popularity grow rapidly in recent years.
Like the ECR145CL and ECR235CL in the range, the compact body on the Volvo ECR305CL swings only fractionally outside its own track width – less than 80mm (with 800mm shoes) – enabling it to work extremely close to walls, road barriers etc., without risk of collision with the rear of the machine as it swings. Safety on a job site is paramount – safety is one of Volvo’s core values.
When not working close to obstructions, the short front/rear radius provides other advantages – highway work being a prime example. The machine’s ability to swing within a typical single road lane width minimizes disruption to traffic flow.
The all-new, rounded cab on Volvo’s short swing models is also designed to stay within the rear swing radius. Despite this design consideration, it remains the roomiest and most comfortable cab in the segment – providing a superior operator environment. With its sliding door, getting into and out of the cab is easy, even when positioned close to an obstruction, such as a wall. With its efficient heating and ventilation system, a good working environment is assured, irrespective of weather conditions.
As on all other C-Series excavator models, the cab features a large, bright, colour LCD monitor, providing both a built-in service display and selectable hydraulic control options. This monitor can also be used with an optional (standard in Europe) rear view camera, further increasing operating safety.
Despite its compact design, the Volvo ECR305CL is easy to service and maintain. All check and cleaning points are readily accessible; many of them available via wide-opening side doors. The optional CareTrack GPS system conducts a self diagnostic routine, alerting the operator – or the fleet manager back at the office – should a fault be detected. Enabling preventive maintenance operations to be carried out, CareTrack helps to optimize machine uptime and, consequently, customer profitability.
With its latest generation, Tier III, fuel-efficient, Volvo engine with V-ACT (Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology) developing 143 kW/195 hp (ISO, net), the Volvo ECR305CL has power to spare. The bucket range is from 0.52-2.1m3 and a wide range of genuine Volvo attachments is also available. Quick fit options also help ensure speedy attachment changes, for increased machine versatility.
Designed and built around customer feedback, the Volvo ECR305CL, like the smaller models in the range, is destined to meet the needs of this rapidly growing segment of the market.
