10/16/2008Volvo Construction Equipment has strong business focus on the Volvo Ocean RaceOn October 11, 2008, the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race got underway in Alicante, Spain. This is the tenth time the prestigious round-the-world sailing race has been run since its launch in 1972. Eight boats will compete over 9 months and 37,000 nautical miles for the chance to cross the finishing line first in St. Petersburg, Russia, in June 2009. The race will visit the main markets in Europe and North America, as well as stopovers in growing markets such as Brazil, China, India, and Russia.

Volvo CE will incur an estimated restructuring cost of approximately 45 MUSD, which will be recorded in the third quarter of 2008.

8/27/2008Volvo Construction Equipment begins production and delivery of its new class of PipelayersThe first Volvo Pipelayers (Volvo PL) have arrived in North America. The Volvo PL4611, one of five models in the new product class of pipelaying machines developed by Volvo Construction Equipment, is in full production and available now for the North America market. The second model in this innovative class of heavy-duty, purpose-built equipment, the Volvo PL4608, will go into production in November with first delivery dates set for December 2008.

The formal recognition and award will be presented at a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee in May 2009 as well as the North Carolina State Shingo Conference in March 2009.
