1. How did you come to join the Volvo Group?
I am an expatriate from the United States that has found a home in Sweden and with the Volvo Group. In 2007, I moved to Sweden with my Swedish wife and began a search for a career in a company in which English is the corporate language. Once I found Volvo, I realized the many opportunities offered through a search of their job postings. It was there I found my dream job listed as a business consultant specializing in strategy execution.
2. Tell us about you current role and its main responsibilities.
As a management consultant at Fortos Management Consulting, I am positioned to work with every company within the Volvo Group. Daily, I find myself working with projects and people throughout the Volvo Group companies with initiatives on a global level. I am responsible for helping my customers (potentially every company and person within the Volvo Group) successfully meet the challenges Volvo encounters by working with their strategic execution, ways of working, and problem resolution skills.
3. What would you like to do in the future in the Group?
The outlook for my future in Volvo Group is vast and the opportunities can not be counted. My personal interest is in application of new technologies and the strategic role in business development around those technologies. In Volvo Group, there are many places where I can achieve my personal development vision. We have Volvo Technology where new technologies are developed to be applied throughout the groups companies. There is Volvo Technology Transfer that is a Venture Capital company searching out new startups that may have technologies worth investing in for the future of Volvo Groups products. And there are the many business areas (trucks, aerospace, and boat) that maintain the need to remain at the cutting edge of technology development and strategic integration. I have all these opportunities within my scope.
4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group? ( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
Volvo Group is about the people. They understand the importance of the employees and their role in making the company the success it is today. That is why, from my first interview, they have stressed their desire for employees to maintain a healthy balance between work and home. Coming from the United States, I understand how this can easily be forgotten in the work environment. When I come to work, everyone is respectful of each other, both on a work level and on a personal level. I get asked daily how my family is, and I really get the sense that employees at Volvo could be considered an extended family.
5. Why do you think someone should consider working for a Volvo Group company?
Why not? There really is not much more anyone could ask for in a company. Volvo Group has one of the best working cultures available, a great employment offering, and so many roads for personal growth and professional achievement. Everyday I wake up; I look forward to the day ahead and wish everyone could have the enthusiasm I have when I go to my job.
