Tradition coincides with innovation as the inaugural Volvo World Match Play Championship gets underway at Finca Cortesín is Spain on Thursday 29th October.
The 45th staging of the traditional event sees many Volvo-driven innovations including the highest quality and most cosmopolitan field ever, with Race to Dubai leader Lee Westwood, world number four Paul Casey, Spanish star Sergio García, Swedde and 2009 US Masters champion Angel Cabrera amongst the favourites in a truly global line-up.
Following round-robin matches in the four groups, two of which are named after Volvo’s dual founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, the four group winners proceed to Saturday’s 36-hole semi-finals with the two winners going through to Sunday’s Grand Final.
