Volvo Construction Equipment’s ‘Safety For You’ campaign has been shortlisted for a prestigious European Excellence Award.

Selected from a total of more than 600 entrants, Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) Safety For You campaign has been chosen as a finalist in the European Excellence Awards. The event takes a comprehensive look at corporate communications throughout Europe, and a distinguished jury of 33 senior communications experts will present the awards for the ‘most outstanding accomplishments within the field of communications’.

Shortlisted in the Automotive & Transport Industry category, a key element of Volvo CE’s 2006 ‘Safety For You’ campaign was to raise awareness of how to be secure on site, both inside and out of construction equipment.

The Safety For You campaign consisted of press releases, a ‘Safety is No Accident’ brochure, a special DVD in seven languages and an exclusive Volvo hard hat. Peltor, a world class supplier of personal protective equipment, produced the hard hat to Volvo’s unique design, featuring Volvo’s corporate blue, ‘Iron mark’ brand and integrated glasses. Recyclable, the hard hat is a visible embodiment of Volvo’s core values of Safety, Quality and Environmental Care.

The campaign was actively promoted at global exhibitions and press conferences by the senior leadership team. And the operator of each new machine sold over a one year period received the safety package – amounting to over 40,000 hard hats worldwide.

“We are of course pleased that our campaign is being recognized,” says Klas Magnusson, senior vice president of corporate communications at Volvo CE. “Safety is one of Volvo’s three core values, and offering a high quality hard hat was a good practical way of demonstrating that philosophy. The Volvo hard hat was the most visible embodiment of a much wider initiative to make the lives of site workers healthier and safer,” Mr. Magnusson continues. “Even though the Safety For You campaign is technically over, this safety philosophy continues.”

Also shortlisted with Volvo CE in the Automotive category are Scania and General Motors/Saab, the latter for the media campaign surrounding the relaunch of its 9-3. The awards will be announced on the 13th December at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Berlin, Germany.
