One of the most important elements for the environmental management in the Volvo Group is the decision to have a single environmental policy, common to all parts of the Group.
This policy is the basis for our environmental management systems, strategies and objectives, audits and activities. The approach is shared with all corporate values - quality, safety and environment.
Requirements for Suppliers
The environmental policy includes a commitment to extend our scope of environmental programmes to our working partners, e.g. suppliers and dealers.
Environmental requirements for suppliers were introduced in 1996, and are used as an integral part of the supplier evaluation and follow-up at the different purchasing organisations.
Environmental management systems
Environmental management systems are the tools for addressing and controlling the specific environmental impact for each organisation. Already in 1995 the first systems were certified, and as of 2002 80% of all employees in Volvo production units work in a ISO 14001 certified organisation. Also other parts of the value chain, such as product development and marketing have environmental management systems in place.
