| Dr Susan Solomon is one of the world’s leading atmospheric chemists and is in Sweden to receive the Volvo Environment Prize on 5 November in Stockholm. The prize, this year worth SEK 1.5m (approx. € 150 000), is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It has become one of the science world’s most respected environmental awards. |
| The Swedish government’s venture capital company for the automotive industry, Fouriertransform, is now making its first investment. SEK 60 M will be invested in Powercell Sweden AB, which develops, produces and sells fuel cells, fuel reformers and auxillary power units. |
| Although the third quarter remained, as expected, challenging in terms of profitability, there are some positive signs indicating that the decline in demand has bottomed out and that we are now beginning a gradual recovery. These signs are the most obvious in the Group’s second largest region in terms of sales, Asia, where the economic growth is also reflected in demand for the Group’s products. |
| Volvo Buses has received an order for 100 bi-articulated Volvo B9SALF buses to Sao Paulo in Brazil and an order for a further 84 articulated buses for the BRT system in Bogota, Colombia. Volvo will thus strengthen its position as the leading supplier of buses for these smart transport systems. |
| The Volvo Trucks cab factory in Umeå, will soon be an entirely CO2-neutral factory. This is being achieved by replacing propane with DME and by cutting energy consumption through the use of an ice-cold underground river to cool the production machinery. At the same time, considerable environmental improvements in the paintshop have helped create the world’s cleanest and most energy-efficient paintshop. |

The Volvo shows are being staged during the ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) congress in Stockholm between 21 and 25 September. |
| Volvo Trucks is now taking the next concrete step towards carbon dioxide-neutral road transport. Within the framework of a broad-based joint project, field tests are being conducted with 14 trucks running on Bio-DME – a fuel that combines a low environmental imprint with high energy efficiency. |
