"The 11-litre version of the popular Volvo FM is the premium fleet truck for weight-sensitive applications. It combines a powerful driveline, high driver comfort and optimised load capacity, and is designed to attract customers in an area where we see strong expansion potential," says Gary Bone, General Manager Volvo Trucks.
Light weight and high performance
The new 11-litre engine is about 140 kg lighter than the larger D13 engine. This allows for high load capacity. The D11 engine also offers high performance and fuel efficiency.
"Our tests show excellent results in terms of both fuel consumption and performance. We believe it will be a leader in its segment and an attractive solution for regional transports," says Gary Bone.
Two power levels
The D11 engine is designed to meet both Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards with the help of SCR exhaust gas treatment. It will be launched in two versions:
- the D11B is Euro 4 compliant and is available in 350, 390 and 430hp outputs; and
- the D11C is Euro 5 compliant and is available in 330, 370, 410, and 450 hp options.
The engine provides a high power output at both low and high engine revs. Its economy range is between 1,050 and 1500 rpm, and 95 percent of the maximum torque is available within this range.
"The 11-litre engine is exceptionally strong and a pleasure to drive," says Gary Bone. "What's more, we've combined it with our market leading I-shift automated gearbox as the standard driveline package on the primemovers models. This makes a D11 powered FM both comfortable to drive while providing greater fuel-efficiency."
Modern design and new interior
The 11-litre Volvo FM has the same upgraded cab design as the rest of the FM range.
It has an upgraded exterior with new headlamps, new sun visors and a new Globetrotter sign. The cab interior has been completely redesigned to provide optimum conditions for safe driving and flexible storage. Moreover, Volvo's low entrance steps offer increased convenience for drivers who enter and exit the truck many times a day.
The Volvo FM with 11-litre engine is available as either a 4x2, 6x4, and 8x4 configuration. It has a gross combination weight capacity of up to 50 tonnes.
