Volvo Trucks takes up the struggle against alcohol on Europe’s roads
One in three fatal road accidents is caused by alcohol. If the EU’s goal of halving the number of traffic fatalities between 2001 and 2010 is to be realised, this problem has to be addressed with the utmost seriousness. That is why Volvo Trucks and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) are conducting a Europe-wide campaign called “Safe & Sober”. A new summit meeting has been set for December 2 in Paris.

The Danish government is taking steps to improve road safety through increased collaboration with Sweden. On 6 November, the Swedish Trade Council will hold a seminar at the Swedish Embassy in Copenhagen, where Volvo Trucks and Swedish government officials will share their experience in road safety.

Tomorrow’s Volvo truck identifies dangers in advance
Trucks that automatically identify traffic hazards long before the driver does. This can really become a reality within the next ten years. On 22-23 October, Volvo Trucks and a number of other partners will be revealing how tomorrow’s traffic safety can be improved through new solutions for communication between vehicles and their surroundings. The demonstration will take place on a test track outside Frankfurt in Germany.

The Lithuanian Truck of the Year 2009 was unveiled at last week's Transport Leaders ceremony in Vilnius. The new Volvo FH was awarded by the jury as Truck of the Year 2009. This FH title was reinforced with Truck of the Year by People choice trophy and Volvo truck got the award for the second consecutive year.

Volvo Trucks reduces capacity in the European production system
Volvo Trucks is taking measures to downsize capacity in its European production system to meet the declining demand for trucks in the European market. As a consequence, the company will initiate negotiations with the unions regarding staffing level cutbacks of approximately 1,400 employees at the company’s plants in Ghent in Belgium, and Gothenburg and Umeå in Sweden. A cost-reduction plan will also be implemented to meet the lower sales levels and increasing raw material cost.

Volvo Trucks has been voted as having the strongest business-to-business brand in Sweden in its category. The ranking was produced by SIFO Research International and Superbrands Brand Council, consisting of independent experts in the fields of advertising, marketing and brand management.
