Crashworthy cabs
The most common accident scenarios include a full frontal collision or a roll-over accident. In these, as well as in other accidents, in which the cab is struck by an exterior object, the cab’s primary task is to transfer energy backwards through the cabin in order to maintain sufficient survival space inside.
At Volvo Trucks we test our cabs thoroughly in a series of sequences, including the front pendulum test. And all cabs meet Swedish cab strength standards – the toughest in the world.
Absorbing the energy of the impact
There are tremendous forces at work in case of an accident. The power exposed to your body is likely to be at least twice the weight of your entire body. That is why the cab interior needs to be energy-absorbent, in order to yield to the impact of the human body.
