Mont blanc - the cause of the fire

On March 24, 1999, there was a tragic accident in the Mont-Blanc tunnel – 39 people died in a fire that started in a Belgian truck. Volvo Truck Corporation regrets that it was a Volvo Truck Model FH12-420hp, which was involved in the fire. There is strong evidence that a sudden massive oil leakage started the fire. The cause and precise location of the leakage cannot be determined with certainty, due to the fact that the truck burned for more than fifty hours in the tunnel and the condition of the wreck does not allow an accurate evaluation.

However, there are two theories on how the fire in the truck may have started. In this computer animation, we will show the two theories and the conclusions that may be drawn from them.
