10-year-old in India and Volvo is rolling better than ever
It is just 10 years ago when a commercial vehicle with air-conditioning would be looked with doubts or a high-end bus would be considered unsuitable for a price-conscious market. These are perceptions of the past now. Its clear that the Indian customer, passenger, driver aspires for a better quality of life and the right transport solution is a key to tackle some of the key issues that face us today – congesting cities, rising transport & fuel costs, people mobility, on-time deliveries, polluting vehicles. Today, Commercial vehicle industry’s demands are focused on the bigger picture, seeking bigger contracts, meeting deadlines – and are increasingly concerned about life time costs as against prices.

Volvo Bus expands its support in West region
Volvo in India today extended its sales and service support network with the inauguration of a new service & part facility in Western region. GMS Motors, the newly appointed service dealer, is located on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad road and is one of the largest Authorized Service Dealer in India now. The launch of the new service & part facility is in line with the company’s growth plans for the region. With this step Volvo can now extend better support in terms of responsiveness, delivery and turnaround time to its bus customers in the region.

Volvo signs final agreement with Eicher
The Volvo Group has signed a final agreement with the Indian vehicle manufacturer Eicher Motors covering establishment of a new Indian joint-venture company. As announced previously, the joint venture, with the proposed name VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. comprises Eicher Motors’ entire truck and bus operations and the Volvo Group’s Indian truck sales operations and service network for trucks and buses.

Russian youngsters see the wood from the trees to win Volvo Adventure
A campaigning project to rescue and revive an endangered and environmentally-sensitive urban park in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod has won the 2008 Volvo Adventure and the US$10,000 first prize, the five students of the ‘Green Sail’ team, beating off stiff competition at the World Final in Gothenburg today (Tuesday).

DECO take delivery of their 100th Volvo Truck, joining Volvo Trucks' Century Club.
Dhansar Engineering Company (DECO) entered the Volvo’s elite Centurion Customer Club today with the delivery of Volvo’s 100th Tipper truck to the company at the Volvo plant in Hoskote, Bangalore. This is another milestone for Volvo Tipper Trucks in India which enjoys a strong partnership with its customers and a high preference when it comes to demanding applications such as that in the mining operations.

Volvo Adventure National finalists rally for better health & traffic.
Volvo announced the finalists of the Volvo Adventure Competition 2008 for the young people (13 – 16 years) in India. Bharat Mata School, Bilaspur (Chattisgarh) has won the first prize this year, for their project ‘No stagnation no mosquitoes’ and will now compete in the Global Finals at Goteborg, Sweden. They are followed by the runners-up team’s project ‘Traffic control’ from Chennai.

Volvo, a world’s leading producer of trucks & buses, today inaugurated its first Service and Parts centre in Bhubaneswar. The latest service centre is the first in Orissa and is aimed at providing world-class after sales service to Volvo consumers in the region. The opening of the latest centre is a part of the company’s strategy to provide complete transport solution to the consumers including high performance products and excellent after sales support.

Volvo Group to exchange its expertise in an Indo-Swedish seminar on sustainable mobility
On 4th and 6th February, in Bangalore and in Delhi, eminent speakers from India and Sweden will work to bring together a holistic perspective on the subject of sustainable mobility. Swedish Trade Council and the Embassy of Sweden in partnership with the Volvo Group will organize seminars on ‘sustainable mobility’ to identify opportunities and address the environmental challenges for the transportation industry in India.

India to host Volvo Ocean Race for the first time
Kochi has been confirmed as the host port for the second stopover of the 2008-09 race. The Indian stopover will come at the end of the second leg of the race from Cape Town, South Africa. Kochi will be the first of three new ports in Asia.
