Rear axle

Getting the power down - whatever the job
The rear axle is the last link in an efficient chain for conveying power from the engine to the truck’s drive wheels, and Volvo offers a number of options depending on the transport sector, engine size and gross combination weight.

Common to all these options is high reliability and low energy loss. Single-gear rear axles are available for lighter gross combination weights, and rear axles with hub reduction are available for heavy gross combination weights.

Gearbox-driven power take-offs
In applications, where demanded, there are gearbox-driven power take-offs - high-revving and low-revving with flange-driven or direct-driven hydraulic pumps. There are also variants with dual drive. All the PTOs are of a robust design to ensure a long service life.
