Volvo Trucks North America again demonstrated a commitment to safety by announcing it will continue to sponsor America’s Road Team in 2009. Volvo Trucks is the sole sponsor of the program, which is the premier national highway safety outreach program for the trucking industry and is run by the American Trucking Associations. The announcement was made today at ATA’s annual meeting in New Orleans.

America’s Road Team is comprised of a small group of professional truck drivers, known as Road Team Captains, who share superior driving skills, remarkable safety records and a strong desire to spread the word about safety on the highway.  The captains speak on a regular basis to government officials, lawmakers, students, industry gatherings and other drivers about trucking and highway safety issues.

“Volvo is extremely proud to sponsor such an important safety and image building program for the trucking industry,” said Scott Kress, Volvo Trucks senior vice president – sales & marketing.  “America’s Road Team and its captains put a human face on  trucking.  They educate audiences about the industry, its importance to society and our dedication to safety on the nation’s highways.  Through these Road Team Captains, the general public gets to know the men and women behind the wheel of millions of trucks.”

Volvo Trucks North America’s operations and products are guided by the company’s three core values:  Safety, Quality and Environmental Care.  The Volvo VT, VN and VHD trucks are assembled in the United States at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia, while Volvo engines for North America are assembled in Hagerstown, Maryland.  Both plants are certified to ISO14001 environmental and ISO9001 quality standards.
