Volvo knows reducing fuel consumption has huge benefits. Increasing the fuel efficiency of Volvo trucks saves money for truck owners and reduces their environmental impact. Volvo Trucks North America is a partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the SmartWay® tractor program. Volvo developed a comprehensive package of SmartWay components for the Volvo VN to deliver high fuel efficiency and low emissions. Volvo VNs ordered with this set of components are eligible to receive EPA’s Certified SmartWay designation. This identifies a truck as being extremely fuel efficient with a lowered carbon footprint, and having low emissions.
EPA estimates more than one million barrels of oil would be saved if 30% of the trucks and trailers sold industry-wide in 2007 were SmartWay tractor-trailer combinations.
