Volvo Trucks in Russia

Volvo success story in Russia dates back 36 years from now when the first 100 Volvo F89 trucks were delivered to the country in 1973. In the Russian market Volvo vehicles are now synonyms for progress, technology, and safety. Their renown robustness and reliability helped Russian transportation and construction companies to reach new levels of productivity and efficiency for the benefit of national economy. Since 11 years Volvo has been No. 1 supplier of foreign commercial vehicles to the Russian market. Today every fourth foreign truck on the Russian roads is branded Volvo.

Volvo has the best developed network of authorized workshops in Russia, and is the leader in availability of original parts for heavy commercial vehicles of foreign makes. We really care about each Volvo truck on Russian roads. We understand that commercial transportation becomes a profitable business when vehicle servicing is efficient. All Volvo workshops have hi-tech modern equipment that allows for solving any problem, however complex, in shortest times. Volvo workshop personnel is regularly trained; the newest training methodologies and Volvo standards are applied.

Volvo is the only manufacturer that provides service contracts on the Russian market. When a customer buys a truck, he is aware of the total amount he will pay for maintenance and repair in four years. Fixed monthly payments allow controlling the expenditures and provide for higher competitiveness.

Since 1993 Volvo has been delivering financial services for Russian customers. In 2003 Volvo Finance Service Vostok, a Volvo subsidiary, was established in Russia. Volvo Finance Service Vostok gives our customers the possibility to lease Volvo vehicles at the best conditions. The financial company is the leader in the Russian market in terms of credit portfolio in the segment of commercial vehicle leasing. For four consecutive years Volvo Finance Service Vostok received awards as best leasing company in Russia for commercial transport. As of Q4 2008 Volvo Finance Service Vostok financed more than 11,500 trucks for the amount exceeding 40 bln rubles.

Absolute excellence is an inherent attribute of all Volvo activities. We are driving the progress of our clients and of the automotive industry on the whole.

Our objective is to produce the best commercial vehicles and to develop the most effective transport solutions. Each truck must give its owner maximum profit.

Kaluga Plant Inaugurated on January 19,  2009

In 2007 the Investment Agreement with the Administration of Kaluga Region was signed, and the company launched the project of construction of the Volvo plant in Kaluga-Yug industrial park. The total area of the land plot acquired by Volvo makes 55 hectares.
After the Groundbreaking Ceremony in October 2007 plant construction geared up.

Civil works were completed to schedule, that is in a little more than a year, which is a record for industrial facilities of such kind.

Volvo plant in Kaluga operates in conformity with Russian and international standards and will strictly attain to the requirements of Volvo Group internal regulations, thus ensuring unrivalled levels of quality, safety, and environmental care.

Production program and model mix will directly depend on market developments and on our customers’ demands. The first models to be assembled will be Volvo FH and Volvo FM. Total plant capacity is 15,000 vehicles a year. This means that every day 60 trucks with components will arrive to the plant, and 66 new vehicles will be built.

These high rates will require the labor of nearly 1000 qualified employees and workers.

Another important fact is that up to 95% of materials used in a truck are recyclable. And even more - Volvo plant is ready to assemble Euro 4 and Euro 5 compliant vehicles. Volvo really cares about the environment.

The five assembly lines make more than 500 meters of total length. They are deployed in the main facility of 15,000 square meters and serve the integrated production cycle.

The 15,000 square meters warehouse is capable to accommodate more than 30,000 components and tools required for vehicle manufacturing.

A footbridge connects the main production facility and the warehouse to the office building that accommodates:

• Offices and meeting rooms;
• Locker rooms and showers for the workers;
• A 300 seat canteen;
• Reception area, show-room and gift shop.

The Volvo plant site provides for a vast vehicle storage area and ample parking lots.

Volvo Truck Center Kaluga, now under construction in the same site, will be launched in Spring 2009, providing the clients operating in the region with top quality maintenance services.

For many years Volvo has been cooperating with Russian bodybuilders, thus contributing to the growth of high quality national production. This is one of the reasons why Volvo pro-actively attracts bodybuilders and auto component suppliers to the Region. The company intends to reach a higher level of localization and to provide more jobs for the people of Kaluga. Volvo intends to work with both foreign and national auto component suppliers. Such an approach, along with making the vehicles more competitive, will contribute to the development of Russian automotive industry. And evidently no compromise will be accepted, as the quality of Volvo trucks must always correspond to our customers’ expectations.

The launch of Volvo plant in Kaluga brought us still closer to our customers since we have become a local truck producer.

Welcome to Volvo Trucks Russia!
