International road safety training

IRST, or International Road Safety Training Ltd, are a company that specialise in training people how to get the best from vehicles fitted with EBS/ABS and how to avoid roll over on vehicles such as tankers. The company has been sponsored by Volvo with an FM and an FH which replaced their MAN units.

The training consists of driving vehicles on special mobile surfaces which simulate slippery and icy conditions. The ABS/EBS systems can be disabled so that drivers can see how the vehicle will react with and without them and learn how to handle such circumstances when they arise. There is also a tanker fitted with special out riggers so that you can experience how easy a tanker can get into a roll over situation, and therefore how to avoid the situation in the first place. This vehicle is also equipped with an early version of ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) which can also be disabled so that drivers can see the difference ESP makes.

IRST hold a number of events around the UK and Europe during the year. Most of these events are open to any driver who wishes to attend but Volvo holds its own exclusive events for staff and customers alike.
