Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Specialization in Materials Technology
Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg

I was born 1980 in Gothenburg. I spent a few of my young years with my family in Canada, Montreal, before we moved back to the west coast of Sweden. At the moment I live in the beautiful city of Trollhättan, close to work. When not working or studying I enjoy traveling and scuba diving.

I first caught interest for Volvo Aero when I heard about their advances in thermal spraying on a lecture at Chalmers. Working with components which are to be used in aircraft and rocket engines felt very interesting, especially since they require interesting high quality light weight materials.

I did my master thesis here at Volvo Aero at the materials technology department, where I performed a literature and experimental study on a hydrogen resistant precipitation strengthened stainless steel and examined its potential use in a sandwich nozzle extension. During that time I got a good impression of Volvo Aero and therefore I applied to the young graduate program.

My first three weeks as a young graduate I spent on the shop floor at Processes & Services where I got to see lots of different non destructive testing methods I had previously only read about in school. The next eight weeks I spent at Design Methods working with project learning and knowledge sharing. Together with a colleague I did a Lessons Learned pilot within the European program VIVACE.

After that I spent eight weeks at the department of Production Engineering & Development working with a new low volume workshop. My task was to interview the future costumers for this workshop and to map their expectations and needs.

The job involved talking to many people with different positions which was interesting. I also learned a lot about the organization and how things work at Volvo Aero. Right now I am at the Purchasing department; working with Volvo Aero’s casting specialists. My task here is to investigate how they best can make design instructions for investment castings.

During my time at Volvo Aero I have met inspiring colleagues and got the chance to create a valuable network. It is very exciting to get the chance to work in different areas and departments, as well as to attend courses and visit interesting companies. I am very happy with Volvo Aero so far and I look forward to doing my final four month practice period abroad.  If you want to get a holistic view of Volvo Aero, and in addition develop your interpersonal skills, I can highly recommend the program.
