Volvo Aero is involved in the design and development of the intermediate compressor case for Trent 900, one of the engine alternatives for the Airbus A380 superjumbo. This complex structure contains bearings for all the three engine shafts as well as gearbox attachments and main engine mounts.
It consists of two titanium castings electron beam welded together. Volvo Aero set up a development team at Rolls-Royce in Derby who used our own development process and engineering tools.
