Another Volvo area of specialisation is the development and production of rocket engine turbines. The experience we have gained from the development and production of the high-performance LH2 and LOX turbines for all versions of the Vulcain engine has enabled us to become the turbine technology leader in Europe. All of the turbines built by Volvo have completed their missions to the fullest satisfaction, delivering power with faultless reliability.
Our latest challenge is the development of drive turbines for an expander-cycle upper-stage engine. Our turbine concept incorporates cost-effective design approaches, like the use of blisk technology and cast static parts.
We have capacity for both serial manufacture and single-unit production. Our technical production specialties include EB, TIG and laser welding, wide-ranging machining operations, thermal spraying, development of production techniques and laboratory facilities.
