The procurement process involving SPV’s IT operations has now been completed and Volvo IT will be responsible for running SPV’s mainframe computer system. Strålfors and Atea are also included in this procurement agreement, which is worth a total of SEK 70 million.
The main reason Volvo IT was chosen to take over the running of the mainframe environment was that, over a period of many years, the company has developed proven, documented processes in this area. “The mainframe environment is going to be important for us for a very long time and we can offer large-scale capacity, continuity and reliability. This is something our external customers appreciate,” says Hans Christéen, external sales manager at Volvo IT.
“SPV is the first customer in the Swedish public sector to whom we are supplying mainframe operations. We hope this will open the door to even more assignments from other government agencies,” adds Hans Christéen.
Strålfors will be responsible for SPV’s machine print-outs of pension statements, decisions and letters, while Atea will maintain employees’ PCs with the associated support, together with IT networks and open servers.
“This procurement will give us specialist suppliers that are able to comply with our rigorous requirements and also keep prices down. We will be able to provide our customers with an even better service. What’s more, increased computer capacity will make us more efficient,” says the General Director of SPV, Ann-Christin Nykvist, commenting on the decision.
As far as Volvo IT is concerned, this agreement will run for five years, with a possible two-year extension.
